Labour looking strong in Hammersmith but its back to the day jobs
The Conservative and Liberal Democrat candidates for new constituency Hammersmith have predicted they will return to their day jobs tomorrow as they watch the count.
However Labour candidate and sitting MP, Andrew Slaughter refused to suggest a victory at this stage.
All candidates said canvassing had gone well and that they couldn't have done any more as they wait for the result at the Hammersmith and Fulham Council Town Hall, in King Street, Hammersmith.
Conservative hopeful Shaun Bailey said: "I don't think the count is looking good in our direction. Seeing where all the ballots are going it looks like we will be dealing with a labour win here but that's life."
Merlene Emerson, the Liberal Democrat's prospective candidate, said: "I noticed my votes are in a lot smaller piles than the others. I hope to get closer to 20 per cent than ten though. I am realistic.
While the national results are going against Labour it looks like they may have snapped up Hammersmith.
Although Mr Slaughter would only say: "What we don' know is if the other party's have done the same job and if they got more people out to vote than we did.
"The new boundaries has made it a lot more difficult to canvass. I had to run my old seat as well. It's been difficult to juggle those."
The final announcement was expected at around 4.30am but a last minute box of postal votes now needs to be counted.
