Maidenhead prove too hot for Dons
AN unfamiliar and largely inexperienced Hendon side were defeated by Maidenhead in blistering heat during a friendly on Saturday afternoon.
Of the 19 players fielded by the Ryman League side, only seven made first-team appearances last season, with new signings Matt O'Brien, Dave Reading and Michael Peacock all making their bows.
Maidenhead took the lead after only five minutes when a poor Hendon pass was intercepted by an attacker, who rounded the keeper to tap home.
Hendon might have equalised midway through the half but triallist JJ Bates, son of former player Jon-Barrie Bates, could only direct his shot straight at the goalkeeper.
The Magpies doubled their lead just before half-time when a low drive from just outside the area flew into the net, and they added a third just after the interval.
However, Hendon played positive football throughout the game, and were rewarded on 67 minutes when the Maidenhead keeper fumbled the ball and striker Richmond Agyeman slotted home from the yards.
There were no further additions to the scoring, but Greens manager Gary McCann was left with plenty of positives ahead of the new season.
