Omid hails his medal winners
BRENT captain Omid Samadi piled praise on his team after they secured volleyball bronze at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games.
The 16-year-old from Harlesden and his side were beaten by Barnet 17-25, 25-12, 11-15 in the semi-finals at the largest youth sports event in Europe.
And the Capital City Academy pupil, who also plays for Willesden VC, was thrilled to make up for the disappointment of failing to make the final four last year.
Samadi, who followed in the footsteps of former London Youth Games attendees Rio Ferdinand, Christine Ohuruogu and Bradley Wiggins, said: "This is a big improvement on our performance from last year.
"We didn't make the final last time round so to pick up a medal is brilliant. I am delighted we have won a medal as it was a real team effort from everyone. We all contributed massively to this and we all have something to be proud of.
"We are missing some of our team as well so we have done really well. We only had six players so I cannot complain with walking off the court with a bronze around my neck.
"I am a little disappointed that we didn't get a gold, that's what happens when you get so close and just miss out, but at the end of the day we did well and I can't complain about that.
